Arizona Study Tour

‘In Conversation’  Tour Dates: 2012 tour dates to be announced soon!

Next year in September, ACCE will run an exciting study program for Australian educators. It offers an ideal mix of learning alongside students and teachers while engaging in professional conversations discussing how schools integrate learning technologies into classroom practice. The destination is Phoenix, Arizona where we will work in elementary, junior and senior high schools.

The tour is equally suited to primary and secondary teachers and leaders and any education professional interested in building leadership capacity for their school community.  'Experience the GenYes programs, be trained by student technology leaders, meet with teachers and Phoenix District Technology Leaders'.

Submit an expression of interest'In conversation' places Australian delegates in four schools from Elementary school to Senior High. Students from participating schools in the District of Phoenix, Arizona will work side by side with us as we come to understand ‘why student powered technology integration’ is credible, achievable, empowering and most importantly sustainable.

This tour will put you in touch with Arizona students and education professionals who have exemplary stories to tell.  'In Conversation' begins with a question, a question that you prepare to personalise the experience. This tour is more than a school tour or learning walk, it is a collaborative partnership where delegates engage with student mentors, teacher leaders and district leaders.

We now realise that to build leadership capacity for school improvement, we must engage with a wider group of people, seeking out their experiences and relating them to our own contemporary learning environments. We are all dealing with educational change and reform and the students are key stakeholders as change agents in this reform. The GenYes model was funded to find out how students in a leadership role could influence greater technology integration in the classroom. Teachers involved in GenYes and TechYes programs are overwhelmingly positive and believe it had an impact on their students and on their use of technology in authentic ways.

The Study Tour will be led by an experienced educational leader, Fran Dorgan who has considerable experience in information and communication technologies and professional learning. She is currently employed as an educational advisor working with secondary and primary leaders and educators supporting them in their eLearning endeavors. Fran will provide the educational and organizational leadership for the group and be your guide whilst in Arizona.

Final costs are yet to be confirmed, though, the ACCE Board intends to keep this program cost to a minimum.
