Wikis: Students Taking Learning to the World

This paper reports on two student-centred wiki-based projects where students from an Australian school have joined with others from around the world to develop ICT skills in communication, construction and joint thinking relevant to the digital age in which they will live and work. The Horizon project (see http://horizonproject.wikispaces.com) involved schools from the United States, Bangladesh, Austria and China. Students responsed and created multimedia artefacts in response to the 2007 Horizon Project (see http://horizon.nmc.org/wiki/Main_Page). This project identified six digital trends applicable for the present and near future. The Flat Classroom project (see http://flatclassroomproject.wikispaces.com/) involved students from the United States, Qatar, China and Austria. They built on previous work in response to ideas put forward by Thomas Friedman in his book
