This work-in progress research explores how students engaged in a 3D multi-user virtual world Quest Atlantis, developed as part of the Learning Sciences program at Indiana University, were able to build identity and in some cases reinvent themselves online. The study presents cases of students in a number of countries (USA, Australia, NZ and Singapore) who engaged in the online world. The cases give early insight into how experiences gained in these virtual worlds may transfer into and influence student lifeworlds.
With schools and universities constantly facing budgetary challenges as well as the pressure to provide students and staff with the latest technology, all whilst being environmentally friendly, making technology purchasing decisions can be a very difficult task. Fuji Xerox Printers has a unique solution to make that decision easier: Solid Ink printing, the world's most environmentally friendly colour printing.
A powerful alliance between FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology) and LEGO Group has created a globally dynamic educational program for young people (aged 8-16) that helps them discover the fun in science and technology while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills. Over 60,000 children in +35 countries discover the excitement and thrill of applied science and technology through the FIRST LEGO League every year. This year (2006), James Cook University Cairns Campus is host to the national pilot project of FIRST LEGO League in Australia.
The Le@rning Federation learning objects and digital resources are becoming an exciting part of the curriculum for schools across Australia and New Zealand, but how do teachers exploit their true potential? How can a teacher build activities around the object or resource to ensure true engagement and higher order thinking occurs? We will explore how scaffolding can be built around this content to create a unique learning experience for students in Editure
