ICT in Action

In the last few years many teachers have found themselves feeling as if they are on an island surrounded by new technologies and ideas that need to be added to their already burgeoning teaching responsibilities. This can be a confronting prospect for some and an area which needs to be addressed with careful planning and support. At Launceston Church Grammar School there has been a concerted effort to assist all teaching staff to come to grips with the changes needed for the successful integration of ICT.
What happens when you ask 120 students to tell the world about the one thing that matters most to them? You get the BPS Passion Projects. Working with Globalstudent blogs and a range of other add-ins and tools, our students asked questions, researched and presented personal anecdotes about topics as diverse as Coeliac disease, NBA, drums and computer gaming. Using the online blogging environment the 6 month long projects were largely completed as work done at home. This presentation will explore how the projects were developed, the tools used and how you can use Web 2.0 in your school.

This study explored the effects of podcast construction and usage on student achievement and satisfaction. Sixty-seven undergraduate education students were divided into three matched groups to complete their study of Computer Aided Drawing. As part of their coursework, each of the three groups had varying involvement with podcasting. The first group was required to create a podcast, the second group used a range of podcasts, and the third group had no involvement with podcasting in the subject.
